Netaji Mahavidyalaya

Overview

The department of Mathematics of Netaji Mahavidyalaya started functioning from 1948 with Honors and Pass courses of the subject under the Burdwan University. At the beginning this institution was the only centre for studying Mathematics in this area. Naturally, the department has developed a lot and a large number of eminent academician who had been graduated from this institution and are at present working not only throughout the state but also throughout India and abroad.

Initially, the department started with the teachers – Professor P.K. Pal, Dr. R.N. Hazra, Professor Dr. A.K. Kundu and Professor T. Neyek.

At present, the department is equipped with two full-time teachers, two part-time teachers and one guest lecturer.

The results of B.Sc. Mathematics Honors of Burdwan University show that our department is doing its job satisfactorily. In the year 2004, our student Sri Sunirmal Kundu was placed 1st class second in the university. Later, he stood 1st class first in M.Sc. at B.U. with more than 83% marks.

Result

As a result of the joint effort of the teachers and the students, the results of the university examinations at the Honors level have all been satisfactory

Excursion

In 2010 the department of Mathematics has started educational education. We have visited IIT, Kharagpur, India on 19th January 2011 along with 65 students and have taken part in software Demonstration as well as Lecture Classes taken by eminent faculty members of IIT, Kharagpur. After that we have gone to Digha, West Bengal and on 20th January, 2011

He worked on "Optimization Problem and obtained Ph. D. from the University of Burdwan in 1999. He has been carrying out a U.G.C.- sponsored Minor Research Project. Special Achievements: Dr. Biswajit Pal passed M.Sc. with First Class from I.I.T., Kharagpur in 1993. In the same year he qualified both NET and GATE (95-12 percentile). Subsequently he joined as a Research Scholar under the supervision of professor A.S. Gupta and Professor JC Misra in the Dept. of Mathemactis, IIT, Kharagpur and worked on "Physiological Fluid Mechanics". He received his Ph. D. degree from this Institute in May 1999. As a part of this Ph. D. Programme he had to take some M. Tech. Level courses concerning different topics on Computer Science. He presented his papers in different National and International conferences. He has to his credit six publications in reputed journals.
