Brief history
The department started its journey with pass course in 1962.The honors course had been introduced in 1973.
Academic Activities
All teachers always play a vital role towards the uplift of this department. The department always puts emphasis on the following:
- Regular classes and attendance
- Class tests on a regular basis
- Covering syllabus in time
- Student-Teacher Interaction
- Special classes, if necessary
- Encouraging students to participate in different inter college competition
- Encouraging students in borrowing books from departmental library
- Career counseling of the students
All the teachers are actively involved in many academic activities and some of the activities performed in the last year are listed below
- Department publishes a wall magazine named “ANWESA” regularly.
- Department organizes subject based quiz, group discussion and seminar every year on a regular basis
- A one day “Educational Excursion” was arranged by the department in Bidhan Sabha Bhavan and Science City, Kolkata in January 2011.
Future plan 2011-12
- In order to maintain its quality, department has to arrange seminar talks time to time by invited guest speakers
- The department has also planned to set up a computer room with a couple of computers in order to get in touch with the outside world and to complete other academic jobs.
- The department is keenly interested to organize state level/ national level seminars in collaboration with any other related departments of this college or any other college.
- As a part of education the department is willing to arrange its next excursion to Parliament house in new Delhi
