The Journey
When did we commence our journey? The faculty of Bioscience was budded from its main stream in 1948 and nascent intermediate college Netaji Mahavidyalaya. Three year degree course was introduced in 1971. The faculty was glorified with the inception of Honors course in 1983. Since then the department is progressing towards the goal. ‘Be good and beat good.’
What we have in our department? There are three laboratories – for Honors and General students one seminar library having 167 books is mostly of recent as well as foreign edition. One reading room is provided for the students, where they can utilize their time off time to enrich their depth of knowledge. One museum consists of numerous non-chordate and chordate specimens as proof of evolutionary process that is going on in our planet. We have so many sophisticated instruments, microscopes, binoculars etc. to get learners acquainted with such modern technologies. At present computer is being used to explain the study materials vividly to the students. Educational excursion is a compulsion for the learners as per syllabus of the university and norms of UGC to make the students introduced with different types of natural environment and for their merriment.

What are done for the learners? Evaluations are done regularly by the department as well as by the college. Personal Counseling is done for each and every learner; remedial measures are taken by the teachers. Tutorial classes are taken to repair their drawbacks in slack session. To enrich their personality, group discussions are made and to enhance their sharpness and fluency in speaking seminars are conducted, to improve their knowledge subject based Quiz is arrange done on regular basis.
What do the learners do? In addition to study, they bring out a wall magazine “PEARL OYSTER”. The wall magazine is been published on 5th September – Teachers’ Day regularly since 2004. They must maintain the Guru Shisya parampara, as it is nurtured by the department since its inception. However, diligence and perseverance and a bit of intelligence are the main criteria for the learners to touch the peak in the result – oriented studies.
